Family members in shock after a man brutally stabbed his pregnant wife to death after accusing her of being a voodoo priestess who wanted to sacrifice him.
Patrick Antoine brutally murdered his own wife

A man has allegedly stabbed his wife to death and set their apartment on fire because she was allegedly a voodoo priestess who wanted to "sacrifice" him.

The man handed himself to the police. The suspect identified as Patrick Antoine, 39, reportedly attacked pregnant Margarette Mady in the head and feet with a dagger he hid in his pyjama pocket.

He later went to the police on Thursday and handed himself over. On Friday, he appeared in court at emotional hearing.

"The accused and his clothing were clearly covered in a red blood-like substance," a police report said.

According to police report, Antoine from Norwich in Connecticut, USA claimed his wife wanted him as a sacrifice before their child's birth in July. Police also said Antoine, a Jehovah's Witness, believed the kid wasn't his.

After stabbing his wife and unborn baby to death, he also burnt his house.

At the police station he allegedly said "I'm here" and "my wife is dead".

Officers found a burnt-out apartment, the housekeeper's dead body and an alleged murder weapon at the Franklin Street home shortly after 10.45am that day.

Judge Arthur Hadden held him on a $2million (£1.4m) bond and said the defendant believed his wife had made him "deathly ill over the past couple of years."

He said her death was "nothing less than horrific".

The older son of Margarette, who moved to America from Haiti 10 years ago, sobbed in the public gallery.

A cousin said she was a "wonderful person".

Antoine faces charges of murder and first-degree arson and next appears in court on June 20.
